Adam Bauer

Adam Bauer has practiced the I Ching for forty-five years and taught it for twenty-five. He was introduced to the oracle at sixteen by his father, and it has been a companion ever since — a text he returns to not for prediction, but for a way of thinking clearly under changing conditions.

"The I Ching is not just woo-woo mumbo jumbo," he says. "I think of it as an antidote to the ills of the modern world." In his hands a reading is less a forecast than a rigorous method through which we can study the dynamics inherent in our present circumstances.

Adam is a kirtan and bhakti musician. For years he played bass alongside Krishna Das and Shyamdas, and his devotional music carries the same steadiness he brings to the I Ching — an attention to what is actually happening, and a willingness to meet it.

His albums include Shyam Lila (2014), Wonderville (2017), andReturn to the Sacred (2020). His new album, Life and Death, arrives on October 8, 2026.

Each Wednesday he leads a free weekly online kirtan and satsang at 8pm ET — an open, no-cost gathering for anyone who wishes to sit, sing, and study together.
